Our Understanding of the Nature of Reality

The Inner Life Society embraces the following understanding of the nature of Consciousness, Existence and Reality. The Infinite Source is our all-sufficient source for faith and practice. This statement of our Fundamental Tenets is intended as a basis of fellowship among us. No claim is made that it contains all truths about Infinity, only that it covers our need.

1. THE DIVINE SINGULARITY
We understand that only the Infinite Source (Infinity) exists. Infinity is the conscious life force, energ… Continue

My #1 Committment to Self this Year
To be active in the community and grow our membership
About Me
The Inner Life Society (ILS or the Society) is the metaphysical un-church for practice-based spirituality. We provide community, guidance, instruction and resources to assist members in their process of fully realizing the enlightened being they already are. We endeavor to uplift the world by example and create the new realities we wish to see manifest in our everyday experience. We intend to be a clear light, for those who feel called by it, and be of service to others in the completion of their spiritual mission. For some, this is a familiar experience. For others, it is an experience they’d like to know more about. For a deeper understanding of who we are and what we’re about, we examine the nature, meaning and essential qualities of our spiritual approach, perspective, and commitment:

METAPHYSICS
The modern meaning of metaphysics is very broad. It incorporates mysticism, esoteric studies, the paranormal, the healing arts and sciences, psychic phenomena, and other such realms. And while the Inner Life Society embraces these things, our metaphysical focus is on enlightenment. We are concerned first and foremost with the development of consciousness, energy, and awareness for the purpose of living the divinity within ourselves and each other. The metaphysical arts and sciences deal with the unseen forces behind the our reality. We explore together the nature and mystery of self, life and existence, and how we might embrace that daily as we move toward full self-realization.

THE UN-CHURCH
The Inner Life Society does not fit the traditional mold of a church or similar religious organizations. Your body is a temple. Church is everywhere that you are present. Our “core activity” is not to preach but to practice being present. Your experience in the Society is more akin to the spiritual experience you might have in a mystery school, community of elders, sacred order, or apprenticeship with a shaman or other enlightened master. The ILS is non-denominational. We are not affiliated with any particular religion. As a member of the Society, you may continue to be active in any church, temple, synagogue etc. that you belong to. We acknowledge that the opportunity for enlightenment is present in all things and all experiences, and the Truth can be readily found anywhere if you are open to receiving it–and if you are willing to ask. The Inner Life Society does not determine what your spiritual beliefs should be. We provide a sacred space and spiritual tools through which you can safely do the work of developing your understanding, and applying it to your life.

FAITH-BASED vs. PRACTICE-BASED SPIRITUALITY
Religious faith and spiritual practice are not the same. We work toward the embodiment of spiritual energy, not merely the belief in it. We do not, for example, “have faith” in the power of forgiveness. Instead, we engage in the practice of forgiveness as a spiritual requirement for enlightenment and transformation. Enlightenment requires practice. To practice does not mean to pretend to be “spiritually perfect” or to say, for example, that you forgive, when really you do not. It means to work at mastering a particular energy or skill until it becomes a natural part of your being. On that journey, we assist each other in confronting the personal challenges that arise while we learn to apply those practices in our everyday life.

YOUR INNER LIFE
The seen and unseen reality that is happening within us is the source of the reality we create and attract around us. Our conscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings; the “configuration and programming” of our energy and consciousness; the movements and shifts of our moods and perceptions; our reactions, insights and intuition, all influence our experience on every level, from our cells to our major life events. We therefore place great attention on the development and enrichment of our inner life.

OUR SOCIETY
We work collectively on our individual enlightenment. Through our own enlightenment, we create an enlightened society. Any spiritual gathering is really a network of energy, consciousness, and awareness. To harness the energy of that network and use it responsibly requires focus, clear intention and harmony so that all may contribute meaningfully to the empowerment and healing of the group according to his or her ability. And so that all might develop the ability to drive that energy if called up for the service of humanity.

LEADERSHIP vs. HIERARCHY
The person who directs the collective energy of the Inner Life Society is the Spiritual Director. The Spiritual Director is the equivalent of a Pastor, Priest, High Priestess, headmaster, spiritual leader, master, rabbi, shaman, etc. in other traditions. A Spiritual Director is responsible for guiding the group’s collective energy along it's path to manifest a vision. The Spiritual Director is also responsible for helping members discover their own individual path and providing direction to help them stay on that path successfully. All the members may perhaps be capable of directing or leading. But quite frankly, too many directors spoil the movie! There are different levels of leadership in the Society. However, leadership in an un-church does not imply spiritual superiority or that one is “chosen” and holds special favor with the Divine. One who is in a position of leadership may be more practiced than some other members, or may demonstrate a stronger commitment to doing the work necessary to maintain unity and integrity of the group’s energy. Leadership ability and opportunities to exercise that ability are cultivated in various ways, such as through special projects and by training members who desire so, to charter their own Societies in other locations. The current Spiritual Director and founder of the Inner Life Society is Dr. Antonia M.

SPIRITUALITY
Spirituality means different things to different people. Our most basic definition of it, for the purposes of our work in the Society, is the practice of accessing Source (God, the Creator, Infinity, etc.) directly and serving as a conduit of divine energy in all that we do.
